There are so many talented Vancouver family photographers- what sets me apart?

There are so many talented family photographers in Vancouver, but what is it that makes me different from the rest? What really drives me is my passion for capturing the natural moments, sincere connection, and genuine emotion. I love to capture those interactions and connections that make families and couples so unique. When beautiful light, authentic interaction, love, and intimate moments all come together, your family’s captivating and unique story unfolds.

Why I direct instead of pose

Do you ever see an image and immediately feel the emotion oozing from the subjects? That is the type of image I want to capture for you. Although I will always take a couple of photos with you looking at the camera and smiling, this is not the focus of my sessions. I want your images to show real connection that is unique to you and your family. This genuine connection cannot be captured with traditional posing.

So how do I encourage my families to relax and interact more naturally? Instead of traditional posing, I direct my families into a great location, and perfect light. I then prompt them to interact with one another by asking questions, joking around, suggesting games to play, or by simply reminding them to get close and snuggle up together. Because I want the images to be as flattering as possible, I may suggest moving a hand or turning their heads a certain way. If my clients need some time to warm up, we will chat a little and get to know each other. By the end of the session, families are having a great time and often forget that they are being photographed! It is through these natural interactions that genuine emotion is captured.
