Planning your maternity session location is about so much more than choosing a beautiful backdrop. It’s about finding a place that feels peaceful, allows you to slow down, and gives us the space to create photographs that feel natural and connected.
One of the questions I’m asked most often is, “Where should we take our maternity photos?”
The answer always depends on the kind of experience you’re hoping for. Some families are drawn to wide open beaches where they can watch the sunset together, while others love quiet forest trails, wildflower fields, or dramatic coastal views. Fortunately, Victoria and the surrounding areas offer an incredible variety of locations, each with its own unique feel.
Whether you’re planning a maternity session with your first baby or documenting this season with your growing family, these are some of my favourite maternity photo locations throughout Greater Victoria.

Tower Point is one of those hidden gems that feels distinctly West Coast.
Perched above the ocean with rugged cliffs, arbutus trees, and sweeping coastal views, it offers a dramatic backdrop without feeling busy or overdone. The golden light here in the evening is beautiful, and because there is a mix of rocky shoreline, grassy fields, a small sandy beach, and trees, we can create a gallery with plenty of variety. Just a short walk takes you from beautiful grassy fields, to the rugged Island shoreline.
I especially love Tower Point for couples and growing families who enjoy a little adventure and want their images to feel connected to the natural beauty of Vancouver Island.
Tower Point is perfect if you’re looking for photographs that feel adventurous, timeless, and uniquely Vancouver Island. The scenery is dramatic without overpowering the images, allowing the focus to remain on your connection while still showcasing the incredible coastline. It’s one of my favourite locations for couples who want something a little different than a traditional beach session.
Best for:

If you’re dreaming of wide open meadows leading to the ocean, Aylard Farm is one of the most beautiful locations on southern Vancouver Island.
The walk to the beach is gentle and well worth it. Along the way you’ll find open grassy fields, mature trees, and beautiful natural landscapes before arriving at a stunning stretch of coastline.
One of the things I love most about Aylard Farm is how peaceful it feels. Even during the warmer months, it’s often possible to find quiet pockets where we can slow down and focus entirely on your family.
Aylard Farm offers incredible variety in one session. We can begin in open fields, wander through forested trails, and finish by the ocean without ever feeling rushed. If you’re hoping for a gallery that tells a complete story with lots of variety, this is one of the best places around Victoria.

Dallas Road is iconic for a reason.
The combination of ocean views, driftwood, coastal grasses, open fields, and dramatic skies creates a timeless West Coast backdrop that never goes out of style.
The open landscape gives us room to move naturally rather than feeling confined to one small area. Whether we’re walking hand in hand, watching your little one explore the shoreline, or simply enjoying the evening together, the location naturally encourages connection.
Sunset here is often spectacular, especially during late spring and summer.
Dallas Road is one of my favourite recommendations because it’s beautiful in every season and photographs incredibly well at sunset. It’s also very accessible, making it a wonderful option during pregnancy while still offering the iconic coastal scenery Victoria is known for.
Best for:
The rocky shoreline, windswept grasses, arbutus trees, and endless views across the Strait of Juan de Fuca create a backdrop that feels peaceful, timeless, and uniquely Vancouver Island. It’s a wonderful location for couples who love the coast but want something a little quieter than some of Victoria’s more popular beaches.
One of the things I love most about Harling Point is the variety. Within a short walk, we can photograph along the rocky shoreline, among the native grasses, and with sweeping ocean views that change beautifully as the sun begins to set. The light here in the evening is especially beautiful, creating soft, natural tones that perfectly complement maternity photography.
Because of the uneven shoreline, I usually recommend this location for couples or families with older children who are comfortable walking on natural terrain. The result is a gallery that feels adventurous, elegant, and deeply connected to the beauty of Vancouver Island.
Harling Point has a quieter, more intimate atmosphere than some of Victoria’s larger beaches. The natural rock formations, coastal textures, and ocean views create elegant photographs with plenty of visual interest while still keeping the focus on you and your family.
Best for:

Beacon Hill Park offers an incredible amount of variety within one location.
Depending on the season, you’ll find flowering gardens, ponds, mature trees, open lawns, native grasses, and winding pathways. It allows us to create a gallery with many different looks while staying in one area.
Spring is especially beautiful when the gardens begin to bloom, while summer evenings bring soft golden light filtering through the trees.
If you’re looking for something lush and romantic rather than coastal, Beacon Hill is one of my favourite recommendations.
If you love greenery and gardens more than beaches, Beacon Hill Park is a wonderful choice. It feels romantic, lush, and peaceful, and offers beautiful shade during warmer summer evenings. Spring sessions here are especially stunning when everything is in bloom.
Best for:
If you’re hoping for a classic Vancouver Island beach session, Island View Beach is hard to beat.
The long sandy shoreline, driftwood, tall grasses, and expansive ocean views create a relaxed setting where families can simply enjoy being together.
Children love exploring here, making it a wonderful option if older siblings are joining your maternity session.
Island View Beach offers so much space that sessions never feel crowded. It’s ideal for movement, walking, and allowing children to explore naturally while creating photographs that feel genuine rather than posed. The sunsets here are consistently some of the most beautiful around Victoria.
Best for:

For couples looking for a smaller, more intimate beach, Gonzales Beach is a beautiful choice.
Its sheltered shoreline and calm atmosphere create photographs that feel quiet, peaceful, and connected.
The evening light here is soft and flattering, making it a wonderful option throughout much of the year.
Best for:
Cattle Point is one of Victoria’s most recognizable coastal locations, offering panoramic ocean views, rocky shoreline, and wide open skies.
Unlike some beaches, the landscape here feels expansive and dramatic, making it especially beautiful during golden hour when the light reflects off the water and the coastline begins to glow.
I love Cattle Point for couples who want a classic Victoria ocean backdrop with incredible sunsets and sweeping views. The open landscape allows us to create images that feel both intimate and expansive, while the shoreline adds beautiful texture without distracting from the connection between you and your family.

One of the biggest things I want my clients to know is that you don’t have to figure this out on your own.
Choosing the right location isn’t just about finding somewhere beautiful. It’s about finding a place that fits your family, the season, and the kind of photographs you want to look back on years from now.
Some families are drawn to the ocean, while others feel more at home surrounded by trees or open fields. Some locations are perfect for toddlers who love to run and explore, while others are better suited for couples looking for a quiet, intimate setting. The time of year, sunset direction, tides, accessibility, and even how busy a location tends to be all play a role in creating a relaxed experience.
Before every session, I help you choose a location based on what matters most to you. During our zoom call, we will talk about the feeling you want your photographs to have, whether you’re hoping for soft coastal views, dramatic West Coast scenery, open meadows, or lush greenery. I’ll also guide you toward locations that work well for your stage of pregnancy, the ages of your children, and the season we’re photographing in.
My goal is never to choose the most popular location. It’s to choose the location that allows you to feel present, comfortable, and connected so your photographs reflect this season of your life in the most meaningful way.
By the time your session arrives, you’ll know exactly where we’re going, what to wear, and what to expect, so you can simply enjoy the experience with the people you love!

The best maternity photo location isn’t necessarily the most popular one. It’s the location that reflects your family, your personality, and the experience you want to remember.
Some families love the ocean. Others feel most at home surrounded by trees or open fields. Some are looking for dramatic scenery, while others are drawn to something simple and understated.
When planning your session, I’ll help you choose a location based on the season, the light, accessibility, the ages of your children, and the overall feeling you’re hoping to create. Every location has something unique to offer, and together we’ll find one that feels like the perfect fit for your family.
The ideal time is usually between 28 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. During this stage, your bump is beautifully defined, while you’re often still comfortable enough to enjoy walking and exploring during your session.
Soft neutral tones, flowing dresses, natural textures, and clothing that allows movement photograph beautifully against Victoria’s beaches, parks, and coastal landscapes. I also help every client with wardrobe planning so you don’t have to figure it out on your own.
Absolutely. Many of my maternity sessions include partners and older siblings. I always encourage families to be part of the experience because this season belongs to all of you, not just your growing bump.
Living on Vancouver Island means we always keep an eye on the forecast. If it’s raining, we’ll work together to choose the best option, whether that’s adjusting our timing or rescheduling to ensure you have the experience and photographs you deserve.
Whether you already have a favourite place in mind or have no idea where to begin, I’ll guide you through every step of the planning process so you can simply enjoy this season with the people you love.
